It was hard for me to watch for a number of reasons: misrepresentation of the church, use of propaganda (they make church leaders look down-right villainous), and a one-sided argument. I recognize that advocacy-docs are notoriously bias, but this film had a chip on its shoulder. Mel really wanted to see a Broadway musical so we bought tickets for our 3rd anniversary date. I went into the play thinking I would enjoy it, but like most things of this nature, I figured I’d be glancing at my watch throughout the show wondering how much more time it had left. In other words, I didn’t think I would love it.Aaronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01314336700575539413noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7046162985757766552.post-56432452742138638742011-03-14T11:06:00.001-06:002011-03-15T21:26:57.152-06:00Finding BalanceI am on Spring Break, although Spring seems to have missed the memo. While the weather isn’t cooperating I am enjoying some precious free time during my first year of medical school. The year has been wild. It’s no joke that medical school keeps you busy, that’s a good description of the experience. Too busy might be better, insanely busy may be better yet. In this post I want to write about Aaronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01314336700575539413noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7046162985757766552.post-23342147468644717872010-07-31T18:26:00.001-06:002010-08-02T16:53:52.010-06:00The Age of DisconnectWe live in the age of disconnect. Cell phones, internet, social networking, technologies designed for the purpose of bringing people together are subtly tearing us apart. He performs with the BYU group Humor U. Some of my loyal readers (yeah I don’t have any of those, but I like to pretend I do) may remember that I posted one of his first shows on my blog a couple years ago. Now he is much better! So for your enjoyment here are a couple of his shows. Hope you like them as much as I do. The House of God is a medical satire about a group of interns’ experience during their first year of residency. For the past month I have been in Nepal spending time in the Himalayas. Here are some notes on my trip: We arrived at Kathmandu airport on Tuesday, March 29. The airport was a worn-down dust box. The new year has come and gone. During this time of year many people reflect on their lives. This leads to people adjusting their focus and resolving to change a few things.
It’s time for a change in OUR BRAVE NEW WORLD. Up to this point my posts are schizophrenic in nature, lacking a common theme. A good blog is predictable, the reader knows what he or she may find and comes back because the Aaronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01314336700575539413noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7046162985757766552.post-63804840996861204432009-12-24T03:27:00.001-07:002009-12-24T03:42:48.058-07:00Variations on a ThemeIt can be quite frustrating when people refuse to accept science (or anything for that matter) because they fear it may not coincide with their religious beliefs. We are covering the presocratic period right now in my science and civilization class. Today I learned something about the Pythagorean brotherhood that I thought was too funny not to share. The Pythagorean's legacy includes beneficial discoveries such as mathematical ratios and musical theory. It is also rich in the ridiculous. They think that specialists handle difficult diseases and so any simpler disease will be no problem for them. These people are wrong.
